William Wadsworth Hodkinson (August 16, 1881 – June 2, 1971)

William Wadsworth Hodkinson (August 16, 1881 – June 2, 1971), known more commonly as W. W. Hodkinson, was born in Independence, Kansas. Known as The Man Who Invented Hollywood, he opened one of the first movie theaters in Ogden, Utah in 1907 and within just a few years changed the way movies were produced, distributed, and exhibited. He became a leading West Coast film distributor in the early days of motion pictures and in 1914 he founded and became president of the first nationwide film distributor, Paramount Pictures Corporation.

Giovanni Pastrone (13 September 1883 – 27 June 1959)

Giovanni Pastrone, also known by his artistic name Piero Fosco (13 September 1883 – 27 June 1959), was an Italian film pioneer, director, screenwriter, actor and technician.

Pastrone was born in Montechiaro d’Asti. He worked during the era of the silent film and influenced many important directors in the international cinema with Cabiria, such as David Wark Griffith, in his The Birth of a Nation (1915) and Intolerance (1916).

Shree Pundalik (India, 1912)

It was released on 18 May 1912 at the Coronation Cinematograph, Girgaum, Mumbai, is sometimes considered the first feature-length Indian film by a minority. The government of India and most scholarly sources consider Raja Harishchandra to be the first Indian feature film, and detractors argue Pundalik was only a photographic recording of a popular play. It was produced and directed by Dadasaheb Torne.

Abe Stern (March 8, 1888 – July 12, 1951)

Abe Stern (March 8, 1888 – July 12, 1951) was an American film producer. He produced 542 films between 1917 and 1929. He was a co-founder of Universal Studios.

He was born in Fulda, Germany, and died in Los Angeles County, California. He was the brother of producer Julius Stern and the brother-in-law of Universal Studios co-founder Carl Laemmle. He was entombed at Home of Peace Cemetery.

Chai Hong (26 November 1882 or 1885 Korea, 4th January 1946 New York , USA) was a Korea-born actor and comedian who appeared in a string of Hollywood comedies during the silent era. He was often referred to as “the Chinese Charlie Chaplin”.

The Wong brothers

The Wong brothers were three ethnic Chinese film directors and cameramen active in the cinema of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). The sons of an Adventist preacher, the brothers – Nelson (1895–1945), Joshua (1906–1981), and Othniel (1908–1986) – received much of their education in the United States before going to Shanghai and establishing The Great Wall Productions.
